Being OUTstanding Employees
Jerry A. Johnson
India is reshaping its identity in more than just an economic or political sense. India's young professionals are highly aspirational and eager to assert their individualistic identities, and this is creating ripples in the national identity-fabric. There is a struggle to make sense of these influences; while the Indian government continues to debate the merits of decriminalizing homosexuality, India's LGBT persons are becoming increasingly visible and celebrating their lifestyle like never before. Private companies are caught in the middle. On the one hand, they are wary of upsetting the government by openly supporting what might be construed as licentious "ape-ing of the West;" on the other hand, they are keenly aware of the many benefits of having a happy, productive, and well-adjusted workforce.

Leverage Your ERG, Partner with Your Company, Influence Equality Legislation
Rob Anderson, Carlos Campoy, Joy William
Local laws which discriminate against or disadvantage LGBT employees hurt businesses. Showcasing personal stories is a practical way to leverage your ERG members' existing relationships and influence corporate and community leaders to ensure all employees benefit from equal treatment. This workshop will give you specific examples of how ERG members can lead the way through personal story-telling and company partnership. Talk to a team that has been there, and that continues to use personal stories in the midst of a legal battle for equality.

“What gets measured, gets fixed” is a business guideline we have all heard. How do we understand the impact of policies, benefits on the workplace for LGBT employees from a global perspective? This panel will explore the work being done around the world to establish metrics and evaluate the work for LGBT human rights, look at how data is being collected, and discuss how to address creating a way to consolidate these findings into global guidelines that companies can use. LGBT Employees on Foreign Assignments: Theory & Chevron Case Study
Nick Thomas, Julie Dorf, Kathryn Friedman
In this workshop, we'll examine how to make a foreign assignment really work for GLBT employees. A brief review of policies and laws is followed by examination of the practicalities of making a foreign assignment work; from both a personal and a company perspective, maintaining the focus on GLBT employees. Leaders from Human Rights Campaign and the Council for Global Equality will walk through the state of LGBT equality in the global workplaces of corporations and dive more deeply into how a company's relocation policies should be formulated to be fully inclusive of LGBT employees, given the complexities of immigration issues and LGBT hardship postings. Reference examples are derived from Chevron's policies and practices, as well as from the experiences of a few Chevron employees (individuals highlighted will remain anonymous, of course.) The session will conclude with the distribution of a new resource: "LGBT Relocation Guidelines for Multinational Corporations."
